http://www.vernissage.tv | At Art Amsterdam 2011, Dutch artist Tinkebell presented her project “On Amy Taxidermy – From a True Fan”. Over a span of 10 years, Tinkebell bought mounted animals from Amy, who sold the animals on eBay. At the booth of Torch Gallery, both the taxidermied animals are on display as well as images from Amy’s blog. The project provides insight into a unique subculture.

The “No Holds Barred” section of Art Amsterdam art fair is a special sector that allows maximum freedom of presentation. The only criterion is that the artwork has to fit a 25 square meter space. One of the projects on show at Art Amsterdam 2011 was Dutch artist Tinkebell’s installation “On Amy Taxidermy — From a True Fan”, presented by Torch Gallery, Amsterdam.

On the opening day of the fair we had the chance to meet with Tinkebell and speak with her about the project that she started in 2003 and basically tells the story of a little girl who developed a passion for taxidermy.

I know people who are very respectful and compassionate toward all animals, however they do not find mounting a deer’s head on a wall disrespectful.

Lily,

From the point of view from the animals, I believe the soul of all living things departs the material world upon death, so I don’t believe animals would be affected by the fact their body is being preserved and not discarded or even consumed.
From my human perspective, I don’t believe it’s morally offensive. I believe we dispose of human remains by either burning or burying the remains. This is done due to ceremonial reasons and also to dispose of the remains, versus tossing them into a pile somewhere and having the implications that arise from disease, etc.
Many societies in the past chose to mummify their remains which could be considered a form of Taxidermy, although the bodies were usually buried or concealed. Truthfully, most humans see themselves as a rung above animals so we don’t show them the same respect we do with our own kind. Even Roy Rogers had trigger "stuffed." More as a memorial than disposing of him via the glue factory or open pit.

Obviously I don’t want to turn it into paper. I want to throw it and see if it will fly.

why waste your money like that? if you want a paper plane fold one and play with it.

If i were you I’d go all out and try to make it into and rc plane.
