Anyone know of a good/cheap Taxidermy online? How much does it cost to get a good model of a smallmouth bass? The fish was released to live another day (Weighed 5 pounds, 20 inches long). How does this process work and whats a good price. What things do you want to look for when getting a model. This will be my first time so, any tips or suggestions are welcome.

Great job releasing such a great fish! Sadly I haven’t the answer to your question and I might suggest you ask not on "fish" but on the "fishING" forum instead. Good luck and thanks again for putting that fish back. Who knows, maybe thats the 3 1/2 pounder I released in 05. :o )

The taxidermy is in Florida and it is called Woods to Wall or Woods 2 Wall but I cant find the website, phone number, or address. It is located in central Florida.

There is a company by that name in Alabama:

You can find other Florida taxidermists here:

Hope this helps!

I have some fish skulls that I want to preserve, and have tried and failed with the simmering method and don’t want to raise beetles.

I have read that initially skulls can simply be soaked in water for a long period of time to prepare them (30 days minimum) and the flesh will simply rot off?

Is that right and should it be in a container with a lid or open to the air?

"I have read that initially skulls can simply be soaked in water for a long period of time to prepare them (30 days minimum) and the flesh will simply rot off?"

That’s a method of cleaning called "maceration". Not my first preference, esp. when it would come to fish or other delicate bones. I would go with the dermestid beetles, (cleaner & more efficient IMHO)

If you want to macerate, use a container that is lidded. Poke some holes in the top and make sure it’s away from the house and protected from rain, etc. How long it takes depends on the temp. where you live and the amount of flesh still on the skull/bones. A warning, macerating smells BAD and is very messy. After it is cleaned, soak for a couple hours in 3% hydrogen peroxide and let dry in direct sunlight to whiten up the skull & bones. Good luck.

I know my topic is taxidermy but I have to have a topic in my research paper. I have to be able to prove something and Im not sure what I could prove in Taxidermy because I dont know much about it yet.

Hunters who give any part of a game animal or game bird to a taxidermist for mounting must attach a wildlife resource document (not the tag from the hunting license or permit) to the part. In return, for deer, pronghorn antelope, turkey and pheasant, the taxidermist must give the hunter a receipt as prescribed in "EXCEPTION". The taxidermist "proof of sex" receipt for the part must accompany the tagged carcass until it reaches its final destination and is finally processed. If the taxidermist places any game animal or game bird in cold storage, then the cold storage or processing facility record book is required by law. Without the appropriate record book and a wildlife resource document accompanying the game animal or game bird, a taxidermist may be exceeding the prescribed possession limits for game animals and game birds.
